THE SOLOIST

The creative force behind Marina Orchestra is frontman and songwriter, Justin Powers. Believing in the role of music as a healing force, Powers is driven to write feel-good and uplifting songs. He brings his craft to the stage with his full band Marina Orchestra, a sprawling musical feast filled with churning poly-rhythms, backing vocalists and horns. As a solo performer, he distills the essence of his songs, originally designed for the large six to ten piece ensemble, into a more stripped-down, intimate experience. Still, the joie de vivre of his writing is captured in these performances, after all “music is medicine” sings Powers. Rounding off his solo set is an arsenal of covers from golden oldies (i.e. Cupid - Sam Cooke, Up on the Roof - The Drifters...) to deep cuts (i.e. Queen Bee - Taj Mahal, The Harder They Come - Jimmy Cliff).

Hold a seashell to your ear and enjoy the sweet sounds of Marina Orchestra, the New Orleans based beach-rock outfit. Imagine if the B-52’s, David Byrne and Sir Victor Uwaifo all went to Trinidad to write music. Band leader and singer songwriter, Justin Powers, cleverly weaves between genres creating a feel-good, groovy style of rock that is distinctly original.

Known for their vibrant musical energy and life affirming lyrics the band has wowed audiences with their soaring vocal harmonies and infectious rhythms. Since 2010 Marina Orchestra has been a vision of a blaring brass section, swinging back-up singers, churning poly rhythms and sweet melodies that stick with you.

In 2026 Marina Orchestra continues to perform their harmonious set to dancing feet. An acoustic EP is in the finishing stages of production as well as their 4th full length album with 12 original songs.

Veterans at their craft, Marina Orchestra has been excited and delighted to have been performers at New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, Bonnaroo, French Quarter Festival, Bayou Boogaloo, Tipitina’s, The New Orleans Mint, Secret Stages Festival and many other enchanting spaces.
