THE SOLOIST

The creative force behind Marina Orchestra is frontman and songwriter, Justin Powers. With his unique ability to craft feel-good and uplifting music, Powers brings his vision to life both as a solo artist and through his band. As a solo performer, he distills the essence of his songs—originally designed for a larger six- to ten-piece ensemble—into a more stripped-down, intimate experience. This solo set not only showcases his exceptional songwriting but also provides audiences with a closer and more personal connection to his music, allowing each note and lyric to sink in. Rounding off his solo set is an arsenal of covers from golden oldies (i.e. Cupid - Sam Cooke, Up on the Roof - The Drifters...) to deep cuts (i.e. Queen Bee - Taj Mahal, The Harder They Come - Jimmy Cliff).

The Band

Justin Powers & the Marina Band bridges the gap between his solo work and the expansive arrangements of Marina Orchestra. With a tight, dynamic trio or quartet behind him, the Marina Band brings a fresh energy to the stage—retaining the same intimacy and emotional depth of his solo performances, but with the added vitality of a full-band experience. Whether performing solo or with the band, Powers captivates listeners, offering a blend of passionate storytelling, evocative melodies, and a sound that ranges from tender and reflective to bold and electrifying. Every live performance is a testament to his ability to connect with audiences on a deeply personal level, no matter the configuration of his ensemble.

The Orchestra

Hold a seashell to your ear and enjoy the sweet sounds of Marina Orchestra, the New Orleans based beach-rock outfit. Imagine if the B-52’s, David Byrne and Sir Victor Uwaifo all went to Trinidad to write music. Band leader and singer songwriter, Justin Powers, cleverly weaves between genres creating a feel-good, groovy style of rock that is distinctly original.

Known for their vibrant musical energy and life affirming lyrics the band has wowed audiences with their soaring vocal harmonies and infectious rhythms. Since 2010 Marina Orchestra has been a vision of a blaring brass section, swinging back-up singers, churning poly rhythms and sweet melodies that stick with you.
